This past Friday was Charlottesville’s 22nd annual Grand Illumination, a community event to light the city’s holiday tree. This year Big O Tree joined in the holiday spirit by cutting down and transporting the tree donated by Betty Bollendorf, a former city employee. The nearly 30-foot Norway Spruce was removed from Betty’s property on November 18th and relocated to City Hall Plaza. Here it was decorated with over 20,000 LED lights.
Each year the city of Charlottesville puts on this community event free of charge for all ages. The event features live music, kids’ crafts and other games and activities. However, this year the tree was returned to its roots by moving from Central Place to City Hall Plaza.
Big O Tree was honored to be part of the is generous donation in the season of giving. Thanks to Betty the Grand Illumination was a”a tremendous success” according to the hosts of the event.
